The University of Alberta expands to downtown Edmonton with the opening of an expanded space in Enterprise Square.

University staff have worked in the building for years, but recent renovations allow an additional 500 people — double the occupancy — to work in the space at Jasper Avenue and 103rd Street.

The external relations, human resources, shared services, continuing education and research departments will occupy the new space.

“The External Relations team is excited to be working downtown – Enterprise Square is the perfect fit for our team,” Elan MacDonald, the university’s vice president of external relations, said in a Tuesday press release. . “I’m proud that we can help revitalize downtown Edmonton and support the Downtown Revitalization Task Force.

The former Hudson’s Bay Building opened in 1939 and the university took possession in 2005 with the help of municipal, provincial and federal governments.
