Today, the road to the Oscars began with the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominees. Plenty of nominations were expected, though there were a few Oscar nomination surprises and some even more surprising Oscar snobs. And one of the things that a lot of people are talking about is the presentation of the nominees itself, because people seem to like the work done by Allison Williams and Riz Ahmed.
Ahmed and Williams were tasked with revealing the nominees for all Oscar categories. And based on the answer on Twitter, it looks like these two should be brought back to do it every year, if not hold the awards themselves. Williams was specifically praised for what appeared to many to be a concerted effort to pronounce everyone’s name correctly.
Here’s one thing I appreciate about Allison Williams: I know she rehearsed how to pronounce everyone’s names.January 24, 2023
Even though today wasn’t the Oscars ceremony, it’s still a very important day. While “it’s an honor to be nominated” is something of a cliché, it’s also very true. Getting nominated for an Oscar is a big deal for people making the cut, especially in categories that don’t always make a lot of noise. Hearing your name pronounced correctly, especially for people who probably tend to hear their name mispronounced often, is probably very important.
Perhaps part of the reason Allison Williams and Riz Ahmed worked so well together is because they’ve done it before. A fan watching this morning’s announcement realized that since Riz Ahmed appeared in a few episodes of the HBO series Girls, where Williams was a regular. So it was a special moment for the fans.
Literally wait, I just realized pairing Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams together to announce Oscar nominations was all girls reunion, so you know what that means… Lena Dunham Oscar Nomination 2024 ✈️✈️✈️January 24, 2023
Whether it’s the Oscars awards show or the nominees announcement, people usually tend to focus on what went wrong or what went wrong with the host . These can be jokes that don’t land, scripted jokes that sound like scripted jokes, or other decisions that make presentations disconnect; this sort of thing rarely goes off without a hitch. But this time, it really seems to be the case. Praise all around.
seriously between Allison and Riz, this might have been the least embarrassing Oscar nominations announcement ever. Even the jokes have landed! https://t.co/CaNLzhnRzHJanuary 24, 2023
Of course, the moments that are often the most memorable are the ones that were clearly and obviously unscripted. The funniest point of today’s announcements came as Riz Ahmed was reading the nominees for Best Animated Short Film, and he had to take an audible breath, which caused those in the room to laugh. , after reading the name of a particular nominee.
Riz Ahmed breaking up announcing the Oscar nomination for ‘My Year of Dicks’ will be more entertaining than the entire OscarsJanuary 24, 2023
It’s unclear exactly what Riz Ahmed found so funny. He may have needed a beat after reading My year of dicks, which, yes is very funny. However, he may have reacted to the name of the final nominee, with the title possibly just as fantastic, An ostrich told me the world is wrong and I think I believe it. We’ll find out if any of these fantastically titled shorts win the Oscar when the Oscars airs on March 12.
