TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — A Tanzanian freighter sank at a pier in the port of Assaluyeh in southern Iran on Tuesday, state media reported.

The official IRNA news agency said the ship named Anil overturned because the containers it contained were misconfigured at Pier 9 in the port. The port has more than two dozen piers.

IRNA said rescue teams moved the ship’s crew to safety. He did not specify.

Iran and Tanzania trade less than $100 million a year. The port is the main hub for shipping gas and petrochemicals produced in Iran and is located about 940 kilometers (580 miles) south of the capital Tehran.

Iran’s imports and exports have slowed due to banking and oil sanctions imposed by the United States after President Donald Trump in 2018 withdrew America from a nuclear deal between Iran and world powers .
