AN IMPROVEMENT AT THE TOP
The newly painted and renovated fire hydrant that stands between the Summit Fire Department and the Summit Police Department is a nice lighted attraction as well as a safety addition to the town. Many thanks to Missy Hancock from Summit, who worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.
Mayor McComb, the city administrator and the board are very cavalier about the availability of real-time financial information. Overdue audits give the impression that the current city administrator and his employees are incompetent or dishonest. Moreover, these overdue audits expose taxpayers to corruption and embezzlement. The earlier embezzlement of nearly $1 million was due to a lack of oversight.
McCOMB VS. BROOKHAVEN
The mayor of McComb was quoted: “McComb has much more to offer than Brookhaven. Maybe it’s biased because I’m the mayor. This has ignored the entrepreneurial spirit of existing small businesses and new ones that take financial risks in hopes of making a profit. If a curfew isn’t one of McComb’s crime-fighting tools, when will the mayor and his police chief unveil their plan to protect buyers and businesses?
THE CAMERA DEBATE
I agree with Selectman Codding’s request for a camera. $4,000 isn’t a lot considering other city expenses. The camera would provide a visual if someone tried to get the President’s attention. As a business owner, I would be willing to set up a fund to raise the $4,000. (EDITORS NOTE: Has anyone considered using Zoom for this?)
WHERE THE CLEANING BEGINS
Can McComb focus on destroying some of the hundreds of collapsing properties around us? Cleaning up the city starts with getting rid of these horrors.
VISIBLE PATROLS REQUIRED
The police chief said that with a competitive salary he could hire and retain officers. Where are they? Because they don’t visibly patrol the streets of McComb.
REGRETTABLE WORDS AND ACTIONS
Regarding the firefighters’ online posts, everyone said or did things that we later regret. Everyone. Times have changed to the point where we often do not hear the call for forgiveness. Instead, we consider the advice of legal counsel and see only the possibility of financial gain.
ONE COMMENT, THREE TOPICS
Two tornado warnings and 20 degree cold, and the Pike County Vault was only opened once? … Road shoulders to be worked in Pike County 4th District. … They’re using Brett Favre as a scapegoat in the welfare case. He couldn’t have done it without Phil Bryant. A trainer received $1 million.
ONE HOLIDAY FOR ALL
There have been jokes recently about not honoring two heroes on the same day because you don’t like my hero. I think we should set aside one holiday a year, call it the Day of Presidents, Heroes and Martyrs. Then each of us can celebrate whoever we want.
