(Reuters) – Meta Platforms Inc’s social media apps appeared to be back on track after facing a brief disruption in the United States on Wednesday, according to data from outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
At the height of the outage, more than 17,000 user reports had reported issues with Instagram in the US as of 23:52 GMT. Over 13,000 incidents were reported for the Facebook app and outage reports also briefly increased for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger around the same time.
Downdetector tracks outages by gathering status reports from multiple sources, including errors submitted by users on its platform.
Big Tech platform outages are not uncommon, as several companies ranging from Google to Alphabet Inc to Microsoft Corp have experienced outages.
Microsoft was hit by a network outage earlier Wednesday that took down its Azure cloud platform as well as services such as Teams and Outlook, affecting millions of users worldwide.
Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
