Martin Lewis, who is host of ITV’s popular The Money Show, has warned customers of a “huge” rise in prices for broadband and mobile services in April.

In an email from Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis said: “My heart sank last Wednesday as the latest CPI inflation of 10.5% was announced,” adding that this is what the Broadband and mobile phone companies are basing their price increases.

The financial reporter pointed out that many companies don’t stop there, with “most” adding another 3-4% on top.

The savings expert then revealed the biggest increases reported in the past seven days, with BT and EE among the top performers.

Broadband and mobile price hikes announced by BT, EE and Sky

Here are the broadband and mobile companies that announced the highest price increases according to Money Saving Expert:

  • BT and mobile broadband: 14.4%
  • EE and mobile broadband: 14.4%
  • Broadband and mobile plusnet: 14.4%
  • Broadband and Mobile Shell: up to 13.5%
  • Sky Mobile: 9% for out-of-contract.
  • TalkTalk broadband: 14.2% except on a higher rate plan.
  • Three broadband and mobile: 4.5%/14.4% depending on sign-up date.
  • Vodafone: to be confirmed.

It has been pointed out that 16 million people in the UK are out of contract and can therefore leave without being penalized for it.

However, it was noted that for those who are still under contract, the move may be more problematic, but they must take action when their contract ends.

Cheapest broadband and line rental deals for new customers

  • Mobile talk: New customers could get 100GB/month for £9.87/month by paying £11.95 and be eligible for a £25 Amazon voucher.
  • Three provides unlimited data for “£15.54/month”. This offer allows customers to pay £17/month, then £19.45/month from April. However, new users will receive an automatic cashback of £42.
