LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) — Lubbock chef Angie Ragan is opening a new mobile restaurant, nearly a year after competing on Gordon Ramsey’s “Next Level Chef” on Fox. Her next venture, Salt by Angie’s Cuisine Lorry, an upscale mobile restaurant, is something she says Lubbock has never seen before.
“I want to be able to ride to an event. I want a mobile restaurant where it’s my food. It’s high end. It’s something special. It’s not something you get every day,” Ragan said.
Cuisine Lorry is a mobile restaurant that customers can rent out for events. She says it’s more of an experience than just a meal, with a large tent, seating area and gourmet dishes ready as soon as customers order. She also plans to use it as a way to tell others about her kitchen hacks.
“I like showing people my hacks. I love showing people how I make my recipes and why my flavors are what they are. So I’m going to start shooting videos for what I’m serving in the truck – it’s going to be on Instagram. So you’re going to be able to watch what I do and how I do it and then come and taste it,” she said.
Ragan’s next-level dishes and take-it-or-leave-it personality got her all the way to the “Next Level Chef” semi-finals. She brought home several new skills and memories in the central city.
“First of all, a lot of post-traumatic stress, a lot of emotion, I’ve only seen it once again. I think I have the nerves in place to see it again before season 2 comes out But it’s so much fun and of course they do a great job,” Ragan said. “I was shocked at what was left out. I’ve had a bunch of accidents that you haven’t seen. I dropped a big, huge pot of panko and blew it on the floor.
Now, if she’s in a hurry, she can’t wear her chef’s coat to the grocery store without being recognized.
“I love talking to everyone; I love hearing what they thought of the show, their favorite episode – the lobster one really draws people in,” she said.
In this episode, several other contestants mistakenly left a lobster up for grabs, leaving Ragan with the opportunity to create a dish that Ramsay would praise. With the confidence she had before the show, plus Ramsey’s approval, she’s ready for the soft opening of Cuisine Lorry Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Trinity Church.
She hopes the upscale restaurant will inspire young people in Lubbock to pursue their dreams.
“For our children and for our teenagers, there’s this saying, you can only dream as far as you can see. And that always hit me right in the heart, and so I want to bring things that we don’t see normally,” Ragan said.
After the premieres of the second season of “Next Level Chef” in February, Ragan is free to shoot more competitions. She says you might see her on Food Network or Netflix soon.
“I hate to lose, but no more competitions in my future. I have to put a few TV wins under my belt,” she said.
