A video of a kitten napping in a flowerpot has gone viral on TikTok, where it has received 2.7 million views at the time of writing.

A message superimposed on the video shared by TikToker Sharaya Dillmann read: “Finally found our kitten Avocado after hours of searching [crying laughing and hand on face emojis]The video showed a man lowering a flowerpot from the top of a chest of drawers, where the kitten was found curled up inside.

A caption shared with the post read: “He always sleeps in the weirdest places [crying laughing emojis].”

Cats can sleep up to 18 hours a day and they can sleep in different positions. Their sleeping behavior stems from their “social tendencies” and “wild roots,” veterinarian Stuart Hovis said in a March 2022 article for PetMD.

“Cats are both predators and prey, so in the wild or outdoors, their life depends on their attentiveness. For this reason, cats are very attentive to their surroundings and protective of their bodies. This explains so why might they be sleeping curled up at a ball, for example,” like the kitten in the latest viral video.

Cats also like to be warm, so the curled up position helps them conserve body heat and “also protects the vital organs in their abdomen by surrounding them with less essential, tougher muscle and bone,” the vet said.

The kitten in the last video may also have been attracted to the flowerpot for its high placement on the furniture.

Hovis said: “With a high vantage point, cats are safe from potential predators while they sleep. In your home, that could mean other pets, children, or even unknown visitors.

“As a predator itself, a perched sleeping position gives your cat a panoramic view to keep an eye out for potential prey.”

The latest video has TikTok users delighted, with several sharing similar stories about their own cats.
